Deepam’s branch at Nadukuppam
Our outreach centre at Nadukuppam was officially inaugurated in 2019. We lit oil-lamps and our older students sang beautiful mantras. With this new centre, it is our ambition to serve children with special needs and their families in that rural area. Thereare already ten 2-12-year-old children who are supported individually for various disorders and receive therapy on a regular basis. With the appropriate therapy, these children are visibly blooming.
For some time now we have had the idea of bringing our expertise to a remote place further away. We connected with another Auroville project in Nadukuppam (which is about an hour away from Auroville) where there is already an established network in place to teach about environmental issues in schools. For now, we are using an existing building which we have adapted for our children’s needs. The preparation started a year before opening when we did a survey in two of these remote villages to identify children with special needs and their requirements. Following this, we spent a few months training two ladies who come from that area called Jansi and Kasturi. They are both eager to learn and are now enthusiastically running our new centre with the support of Selvi and Palani from our regular team.
